Get rejected 7 times.
Submit 8.

  1. Okay, I am a geek, but “fall down 7 times, get up 8” always bothered me a bit because… how can you get up the 8th time when you haven’t fallen down yet? “Get up” always follows “fall down;” after the 7th time you get up you are still up, and can’t get up again.
But this variant lacks that problem, because “submit” precedes “get rejected.” So after the 7th rejection the 8th submission is exactly correct.
Either way, it’s a great sentiment, but the computer language compiler in my head always rejects the original.

  2. WEll…there you have it.

  3. That’s a good point.

  4. It has a Zen-like “wipe on, wipe off” air about it that I like!
