Call me a heathen if you like, but I chose on Friday night to go see Mirrormask in Boston instead of hitting opening night of Serenity. Of course — I don’t like opening nights much. And I had the advantage of having seen Serenity at one of its preview opportunities. It’s a great movie and a lot of fun and I will go see it again. However, Mirrormask, showing in only a very few cities this weekend, needs the good numbers more, or it won’t get a wider release. And it deserves it. It’s an absolutely gorgeous film with a compelling and surreal story that packs an unexpected emotional punch. But what else might one expect from Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean.
So, I second mcurry‘s notion and point you to Cory Doctorow’s review of the movie.
Here’s a list of where it’s currently playing. Go see it today if you can.
Oooh. Definitely will have to look into seeing that…
FWIW, I don’t tend to like opening nights, either. Far too crowded. *wrinkles nose*
Not in Oregon, sadly.
Well, you can’t see it *today* in Portland. But it’s showing at the Regal Fox Tower 10 starting on October 14th. It looks and sounds right up the Child’s alley. *g*
Hmm. I’ll have to see it first. π
Ooh! I’m all envious! I hope it gets wider release. I wanna see it. π
Not, sadly in Maine. Of course, Serenity doesn’t seem to be in Maine, either — no wait, I lie. It’s at Augusta. Hmm. Might be the local arts theater will get Mirrormask, if asked nicely.
*Goes off to write email*
Alas! My theaters are laaaaaame. Nearest is DC and I doubt I can convince the hubs to drive two hours with me to see a movie. *grin*
*grumble* Not.showing.in.Hawaii.must.wait.turn.
But on not so grumbly news, this month in WIZARD Neil Gaiman mentions doing a movie with the every so quirky gothic-girl Death…as well as a hint of distate to not having a blonde haired Brit in a brown trenchcoat for Constantine —ahh well (this Neil Gaiman comic book moment brought to you by: Mr. Angry that he can’t see Mirrormask)

You’re not a heathen, exactly. More like an apostate. But I’ll join you…I’m not up to seeing Serenity at the moment. I am going to see Mr. Gaiman on Tuesday, however. Perhaps I shall be redeemed…
